Exhibition: Childhood Under Fire

“Childhood Under Fire” is one of the subgrant projects of the Media Initiatives Center (MIC).

Photojournalist Ani Gevorgyan and journalist Shushan Papazyan documented the stories of five children who were killed as a result of Azerbaijani aggression and shelling in Artsakh between 2016 and 2023, along with the impact of these losses on their families.

Following the project’s success, the authors developed the idea of an exhibition bearing the same title, which opened on May 15 at the Institute of Contemporary Art. For the authors it was important to transform these stories into a visual archive, moving beyond a purely journalistic perspective.

According to Shushan Papazyan, the exhibition provided another meaningful way to honor these families’ loss and amplify their voices.

Ani Gevorgyan noted that one of the exhibition’s greatest achievements was attracting not only people interested in art and the subject itself, but also students, creating an additional opportunity to discuss the nuances of covering sensitive topics.

The exhibition will remain open until June 7 at the Institute of Contemporary Art, located at 47 Avet Avetisyan Street.

This project was implemented within the framework of the “Initiative for Media Quality and Resilience”.
