The program aims to strengthen the integrity of the information space in Armenia by enhancing journalistic standards and content quality, catalysing the competitiveness and financial viability of public interest media, and fostering the enabling environment for independent information flow.
MIC offers on-demand and targeted practical training and mentorship for media and content creators through various packages. They are aimed at increasing the quality of the content through joint work, “learning by doing”, honing new skills, best practice exchange.
MIC organizes the “Tvapatum” annual media conference and journalism contest, and carries out in-house production of content jointly with media outlets.
In its efforts to promote media literacy, MIC cooperates with the Ministry of Education Science Culture and Sport to enhance formal media literacy education and new school standards, produces new resources for people’s better understanding and consuming media. The project enhances the development of the media analysis by promoting debates around media sector and the quality journalism. For fighting against disinformation, MIC provides support to editorial offices, which check facts.
The components of this 5-year-long (2023-2028) project are:
- professional development schools and blitz workshops about new formats, models, approaches and tools in journallism; media tours;
- need-based consultations to editorial offices;
- “Tvapatum” annual journalism contest;
- “Tvapatum” annual media conference;
- innovative toolkits on media literacy for various target groups;
- advancecd courses on media literacy for educators;
- annual Media Literacy Week;
- in-house video and multimedia production;
- am media analytical platform.
The budget of the project is 2,896,232 USD.
The Program is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The project is implemented by Internews in partnership with Media Initiatives Center, Yerevan Press Club and Zinc Network.
