It’s been a year since we have been implementing the “Initiative for Media Quality and Resilience” program jointly with our partners, the Yerevan Press Club and Media Diversity Institute. The program has numerous components: safety training for journalists, fact-checking, improvement of the legislative framework, self-regulation system for media outlets, digital security consulting, and grants for producing media content; these are just a small part of the multi-faceted program’s activities.
On March 4, we summarized the first year of the program, presented the work done, highlighted successes, and challenges.
The Media Diversity Institute presented the “Reporting Diversity Manual” that was renewed within the framework of the program. It helps journalists communicate with different groups, prepare and conduct interviews, be sensitive and not harm the protagonist or information source, and make the article more reader-relevant to a wide audience.
As a result of the program’s first subgrant contest, five projects will be implemented. Kristine Aghalaryan, Shushan Papazyan, Lilit Hovhannisyan, Anya Sarkisova, and Tatev Khachatryan presented the topics, ideas, and formats of their projects. Signing of sub-grant contracts followed. In the upcoming months, they will prepare materials on pressing healthcare, environmental, and social issues.
The “Initiative for Media Quality and Resilience” project is funded by the European Union and implemented by the Media Initiatives Center in collaboration with Yerevan Press Club, Media Diversity Institute – Armenia, and International Media Support.
