The Ethical Journalism Awards Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Yerevan Press Club

On July 18, the Yerevan Press Club held its annual Ethical Journalism Awards ceremony, aimed at promoting the development of ethical journalism and encouraging the consistent observance of universal principles of professional ethics, particularly the provisions of the “ Code of Ethics of Armenian Media and Journalists”.

The Ethical Journalism Awards ceremony is organized within the framework of the “Media Quality and Resilience” program, implemented with the financial support of the European Union. The awards ceremony is traditionally held on the anniversary of the Yerevan Press Club – this year marking its 30th anniversary.

Over the years, the Yerevan Press Club has paid special attention to the issues of journalistic ethics and media self-regulation through its numerous programs, being the founder, implementing body and a consistent coordinator of the Media Ethics Observatory.

“The European Union supports media organizations in their professional development helping them maintain editorial independence, strengthen their capacities, and find ways for financial sustainability,” said Frank Hess, Head of the Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Armenia.

This year’s Ethical Journalism Award winners are Maria Titizian, the founder and editor-in-chief of the online news and analytical portal EVN Report, and Gevorg Tosunyan, a journalist at CivilNet.

“July 18 is a special day, as we simultaneously celebrate three decades of service by our beloved Yerevan Press Club to the development of the media sector while honoring the representatives of our journalistic community,” said Artur Papyan, President of the Yerevan Press Club, in his remarks.

The “Initiative for Media Quality and Resilience” project is funded by the European Union and implemented by the Media Initiatives Center in collaboration with Yerevan Press Club, Media Diversity Institute – Armenia, and International Media Support.
