This advocacy project was aimed at adoption of amendments to broadcasting legislation ensuring objective and fair licensing and regulation of broadcasters’ activities in Armenia and strengthening of the legal protection mechanisms for media professionals by introducing alterations and amendments to the RoA Criminal Code, RoA Criminal Procedures Code and RoA Law on Police.
For this purpose, Internews developed and proposed a legislative amendments package and a concept reflecting new approaches towards the regulation of broadcasting media. The NGO mobilized mass media community and policy stakeholders for the promotion of policy changes. Legal assistance was offered to media professionals to enhance their legal protection.
This project was implemented during September 2005- August 2007. It was funded by the Civic Advocacy Support Program implemented by the Counterpart International with funds received from the USAID.
