On July 21, the Internews’ Center for Information Law and Policy organized a roundtable with participation of interested local and international organizations and state structures to present and discuss survey results, implemented by the Center. The survey aimed at revealing the level of application of open source software in Armenia and main problems connected with their application, as well as studying the policy of application of computer software in the social sphere. The survey was targeted at managers and IT specialists of state structures, educational institutions and NGOs.
The survey results show, that the 35% of the organizations finds the application of open source software possible, the 29% will use it if obliged by the Microsoft, and the 7% will use it for internal purposes. In the opinion of the roundtable participants, the public awareness on the application of open source software should be raised. With this regards, the Center for Information Law and Policy will carry out public awareness activities in September-November, 2006.
