Every week 3th grade Narek writes a script and shoots through his phone camera: Narek TV is about Narek’s interests – air balloon, watermelon… Narek’s TV program was submitted to the Republican Digitec 2013 competition, organized during February 4-8 by Mkhitar Sebastaci Educational Complex, and was awarded a prize by Internews.
As a partner of Digitec 2013, Internews actively participated in the competition by conducting seminars and discussions. Internews specialists were also jury members, and Internews awarded prizes to a number of schoolchildren.
During Digitec Internews’ specialists met schoolchildren, spoke with them on media literacy and critically analyzed TV reports broadcast by Armenian TV companies. What is advertizing, what are the criteria of objective coverage of events, how to check suspicious information? During the meeting with teachers, Internews’ specialists presented online resources and tools, which can make the lessons more interesting.
Internews also initiated a roundtable discussion on using digital technologies in the secondary education. Representatives of state structures, NGOs, private companies and schools participated in the discussion. Considering the insufficient number of state programs, the participants emphasized their role in making the use of technologies in schools more effective and in changing the teaching methodology. The participants discussed innovative projects being implemented in the private and social sectors and cooperation with schools.
Digitec participants were also introduced with Internews’ Media Literacy Curriculum with its handbook and E-learning tool (in the process of printing). The teachers were interested in applying the Curriculum.
